My Approach to Helping

Life is often unpredictable, involving experiences beyond our control that make it hard to move forward. Such events can challenge our abilities to cope, and our views of ourselves and the world. However, if we are able to process and deal with them, they may also present opportunities for growth, strengthening, and positive change. My experience working with people who have faced trauma and other life stressors has taught me both about the painful and distressing impact of these events, and about our remarkable capacity for recovery and resilience. As a psychologist with over twenty years of experience helping very diverse clients, I have learned that there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy. Each person who comes to see me brings a unique combination of difficulties, strengths, life history, and desired goals, and together we develop an individualized plan to address your needs.

More Info About My Practice

After receiving my initial clinical training at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, I obtained my doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of North Texas. I completed my internship at the Harvard Medical School-affiliated Cambridge Hospital, followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Victims of Violence Program of the Cambridge Health Alliance. I have published many research and clinical papers as well as a book on group therapy for trauma survivors, I have presented at national and international conferences, and I am an active member of several professional associations.
