My Approach to Helping

Hi, I'm Maureen, and I love being a therapist! My 20+ years of experience have taught me volumes about mental health and how to help people not just survive but thrive. It has also given me so much more empathy and compassion for others' pain and struggles. A top priority of mine is creating a safe and non-judgmental experience for my clients to explore and better understand different parts of themselves. I have extensive experience diagnosing and helping people with anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsion (OCD), and trauma.

I have received intensive training in therapies for anxiety, including exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP)—the gold standard treatment for OCD. Common symptoms clients experience include worry, intrusive thoughts, rumination, self-doubt, self-criticism, compulsive behaviors, difficulty concentrating, sleep issues, flashbacks, and panic attacks.

The treatment approaches I use have all been shown through research to be maximally impactful. However, we collaborate together to design an approach to specifically address your needs. I have been in your shoes, having gotten treatment for anxiety myself. Now, I’m here to meet you wherever you are, while providing compassionate support one session at a time.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

The biggest thing my clients tell me they love about therapy is having someone on the "outside of their life" to understand, be a sounding board and challenge their unhealthy beliefs and behaviors. Every client has different needs and as helpful as friends, family and Chat GPT can be, having a regular empathic professional is priceless.

The next biggest benefit are all the ways people learn about mental health, aka "psycho-education." A good portion of therapy sessions are spent learning about the patterns of different psychological disorders, how they operate, how to spot the daily symptoms and learn ways to make changes that ultimately add up to feeling better, minimal negative symptoms and feeling back in control-- back to being yourself and in the driver's seat of your life.

The cherry on top is getting to place of moving past survival mode and going beyond --into a new experience of thriving. This is the most rewarding part of therapy and makes all the hard work of the process so worth it.
