My Approach to Helping
Like many journeys, therapy begins with where you are now, explores where you have been, and creates a plan for where you want to go. The trusting relationship we build together can provide a safe space in which you can better understand your reactions, patterns of behavior, emotions, and relationships. While I use a variety of treatment approaches based on each client’s needs, I work from an evidence-based psychodynamic foundation. This means that our work together will focus on gaining insight into your life and present-day problems. We also evaluate patterns, emotions, thoughts, and beliefs that have developed over time. As we gain insight into recurring patterns that cause distress, you can begin to change those patterns.
With couples and adult family pairs (adult siblings, parent-adult child, etc.), I help each person recognize what may be interfering with relational harmony. We’ll learn how past feelings and vulnerabilities are emerging in your current relationship and guide you toward expressing emotions in ways that encourage bonding. You’ll discover new ways to speak, listen, and respond to each other that lead to new, more satisfying outcomes than you’ve recently been experiencing.
I listen carefully to your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. We'll work together to find your unique path toward healing your self and your relationships. A consultation together may lead to short-term goal-oriented therapy or develop into deeper psychotherapy work that leads to long-lasting change and growth.
