My Approach to Helping

Kim McFarland is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), who works with client populations ages 12 and up to assist clients in reaching their mental health goals. Kim believes everyone can benefit from mental health therapy services and she understands asking for help is one of the hardest parts of getting started in therapy. Kim encourages anyone thinking about therapy to call and speak with her to determine how she may be able to help.

Kim treats everyone with respect and non judgmental stance, she works along with you to help you reach your therapy goals. Kim encourages you to ask questions, provide feedback for her, and she will maintain a collaborative relationship with you since you are the only expert on your life. Kim believes if she is not a good fit for you, she will be happy to help you find someone that may better meet your therapy needs.

Kim utilizes a variety of techniques such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and more to help you reach your therapy goals.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

The therapy process can be scary and asking for help can be hard. However, asking for help does not mean one is weak or flawed. In fact, asking for help is a super power; especially when many people are stigmatized for saying they need help. The therapy process begins with an intake; this is where the therapist gets to know you and helps you explore your goals for therapy. The intake session is followed by a treatment planning session, this is where your therapy goals are discussed at length, agreed upon, and become the foundation of what you are working on in therapy. The subsequent sessions are designed to allow you to discuss your feeling, emotions, and concerns in a safe space and the therapist will utilize resources, validation, and support to assist you with reaching your goals based on your needs.
