My Approach to Helping

*September 2018: I am able to accept 1 new Saturday client at this time.*

I help people who are seeking emotional balance in their lives with people who have been diagnosed with non-life threatening chronic condition including mood disorders. It can really be emotionally overwhelming to handle so many life changes. My goal, along with the goals that you bring to the table, is to increase the number of go-to evidence based skills to help manage these struggles in the moment. We will work on accepting these realities by focusing on implementing and maintaining a balanced life based on what is meaningful and important to you along with focusing on the I can instead of the what I can’t. Having the tools in your toolbox when life becomes especially difficult is essential and there are healthy ways to manage it.

I offer Individual sessions with a focus on Coping with Chronic Health Conditions for those over 18 years old. Disorders that are chronic and non-life threatening can include but are not limited to autoimmune disorders, neurological issues, cardiac, diabetes, mood disorders such as depression or bipolar and more are considered the primary focus begining treatment. The specific diagnosis is not the focus of the treatment but rather the management of them. How to manage to the best of your ability while acclimating, addressing the mood issues and improving your quality of life is the focus. This is a time when you may feel very alone and isolated even if you have loved ones helping. Treatment will require active participation and completion of weekly assignments in order for changes to be implemented into your daily life.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have worked in the medical field and setting as a clinical social worker and have had the pleasure of working with many individuals from all walks of life, different issues, symptoms and disorders, socio-economic statuses and issues over my career and I am grateful for each one of them and what they have taught me. This experience has gifted me with the ability to work in a way that many find me relatable as a person and easy to understand. I can appreciate the many situations that bring us to where we can often find ourselves in life and I've been told that I come across that way. The therapists' office is not the place to ever feel judged and as if you can't share something.

My Therapy Focus

Focusing on the here and now and implementing change for the future is how I'd characterize my work. It is always important to know and understand one's past in order to gain insights, understanding patterns and helping you learn what works best for you. I focus on mindfulness, understanding thought processes, achieving a life balance that fits who you are and helping you create the best possible life despite the challenges you may have to face.
