My Approach to Helping
Joy Austin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Tennessee who has been practicing since 2018. She earned an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. Joy is very open-minded and accepting of people from all walks of life, as well as all gender identities and sexual orientations. She has always been drawn to help people who feel as if no one really understands them and what they have been through. Joy uses play therapy with children and teens to help them explore their concerns in a safe and fun environment. She uses CBT when working with adults and is trained in EMDR with clients of all ages.
Joy believes that hope and healing is possible in every situation, though it may look different for each person and may not be in a way that was expected. Outside of work, Joy is the director of a nonprofit cat rescue. She has two senior dogs and four cats of her own, as well as fosters cats and kittens.
She works with senior cats and cats with special needs in addition to healthy cats and kittens. Joy serves as a pet therapy volunteer with TherapyARC and is currently training her new therapy kitten. She is also a foster parent for teens through Camelot Care Centers.
