My Approach to Helping
Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been practicing in a variety of settings for 20 years. I enjoy working with clients and families of all ages, to build upon skills and resilience that will serve them in their treatment journey. I have extensive experience treating trauma, mood disorders, self-harmsuicidal thinking, anxiety and addiction.
I utilize a variety of tools and techniques drawn from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic and Solutions-Focused Therapy. I also recommend mindfulness and wellness strategies that are shown to improve both mental health and overall health. There is no “one size fits all” for the healing journey as each of us is unique. Together we will explore and identify strategies that will work for you.
I have a passion for working with clients who have complex experiences and needs, and am comfortable treating the most common mental illnesses including Trauma, Mood Disorders, Anxiety, and Addiction. Clients often experience a variety of symptoms but have not been able to identify core issues that drive symptoms or develop the specific understanding and skills needed to manage. I appreciate a client who has an openness to learning and a genuine desire to grow.
I provide a calm and caring environment for therapeutic work to occur, and I genuinely listen to clients and their stories. I have an unconditional positive regard for clients, and you can expect my full attention. My communications will always be supportive and constructive.
During my first year of college as a Business major, I took a Sociology class and immediately fell in love. I changed my major to Social Work and never looked back. Along the way, I received life changing advice and guidance from mentors and other professionals that helped lead me to where I am today. Therapy works, and I am driven at my core to assist those struggling with mental illness to heal and thrive.
Goal setting is the natural progression of the assessment process. As I get to know a client and their unique needs, we collaborate on setting attainable goals, and we make adjustments to the goals as treatment progresses.
During our first sessions we will do introductions to each other and the overall process. Of course there are lots of questions I will have to ask, but it is also important that the client feels that they can tell their stories in their own voice. We will develop an initial treatment plan together, making sure we have a plan that can demonstrate attainable goals for progress.
