My Approach to Helping

My name is Jennifer Morris and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist for Individuals. As a prior service medic, disabled veteran, military spouse and mother of two adult children, I bring humility and compassion to each session with clients. I feel that it is a privilege to witness clients development in counseling, where they gain insights into their sense of self, work to heal past wounds and find new ways to lean into their own strengths to develop overall wellness.

My approach to therapy is to work with empathy and compassion to meet the client where they are and understand what is like to be them, the lens that they see the world through and what experiences shaped their lives to this point. Then I work with the client to collaborate on ways to address their challenges through not only cognitive approaches but also offering insight into the nervous system and body based self regulation skills to better regulate the body's response to stress and trauma.

I work with individuals ages 13 - 70 that struggle with trauma related conditions, griefloss, relationship challenges, anxiety and job stress as well as physical disability challenges.

I create a non judgmental, open, safe space to share the most vulnerable aspects of a person's experience with me and earn their trust through consistent actions. My sessions allow a client to set the pace, disclose as they are comfortable and have a sense that they can be their authentic self in my presence.

After many career changes since my time in the military, I wanted to use my care taking skills and personal experiences in counseling to pay it forward. I had several therapists that assisted me on my healing journey after experiencing traumas that shaped my views of the world.

I encourage the client to be candid, honest and open about what things they hope can be improved, no matter how small. I also help them understand ways we can see results, measure progress and continue to evaluate those goals in each session.

Clients can expect ease, comfort and humbleness from me. I work hard to carefully and consistently put words to action and continue to ensure the client feels safe in session.
