My Approach to Helping

As a Clinical Social Worker, I see myself as a generalist. This means that I have worked with individuals across their lifespan using a variety of psychotherapy modalities. My current therapeutic point of view focuses on attachment, mindfulness, and self-compassion as a route to understanding yourself. My own active duty Naval Service provides me with a unique perspective into the active duty military life as well as a familiarity with the Military Medical and Mental Health Services. While I have worked with active duty service members, another significant area of focus has been with children and adolescents.
I am a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) Therapist through the EMDR International Association. Trauma-informed therapeutic practice is essential to my practice regardless of the issues presented. I have been trained in all the major treatment modalities and work with my clients to find an intervention that works.

More Info About My Practice

My practice has evolved over the last 13 years to explore more relational concepts and address attachment issues within psychotherapy. One step in the process has been to pursue my doctorate in Clinical Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania to push my clinical skills to new limits. My dissertation will be focused on creating a therapeutic farm model to treat female veterans with PTSD.

My Role as a Therapist

My role as therapist is to work with my clients to address the issues that are impacting their lives. I do not see myself as the "expert" per say, but as a guide in the process of learning how to reach a place of acceptance and meet the unique goals of each person. We work as a team and our interactions help create an atmosphere of healing.
