My Approach to Helping
Are you Queer and struggling with the stress that comes with creating your family in a heteronormative world? Are you considering adoption or fostering? Do you need help figuring out the best route to go forward in family creation? Is your child queer and you are trying to figure out how to best support them?
If any of these issues resonate with you I can help!
As a Queer, Latinx father and husband and with extensive experience navigating the foster care and adoption systems, I can help with guiding future parents through every step of creating a family and with parenting traumatized children. I also have experience working with young adults who are building healthy relationships with their families, as well as parents trying to support and communicate effectively with queer children.
I approach psychotherapy using the effective modality of a strength-based approach. This involves using motivational interviewing and narrative therapy to help the client communicate and express their inner truth. This approach , combined with queer theory, feminist theory, and social justice education can broaden the communication within the family and lead to more positive therapeutic outcomes.
