My Approach to Helping

Welcome. My name is Eileen Martin and I am so glad you have found your way here.

Since you have found my profile, I imagine you are struggling and seeking support. You may be feeling disengaged from life (life feels too damn hard), unmotivated (getting out of bed is a major chore), depressed or anxious (worried about what is happening in our world, feeling unsettled and exhausted) or experiencing abuse in your relationship (emotional, verbal, physical). Maybe it just takes a great deal of energy to go through the motions of each day (life lacks meaning).

Taking the first step toward healing can feel scary and really daunting. I would love to support you by providing a safe space for healing and finding your way back to a life that feels both manageable and good. I am experienced in working with individuals who have a trauma history, grief and loss, as well as individuals with depression and anxiety symptoms. I am also passionate about working with abuse survivors.

Groups I Work With

I am passionate about working with survivors of domestic violenceabuse and I want you to know...
...I get it. I experienced feeling overwhelmed in my own past abusive relationship. I once felt crazy, had my perception of reality diminished by the twisted words of an abusive partner, and felt terrified and uncertain about my ability to find my way out. I used to tuck in my head like a turtle fending off both verbal and physical attacks. I felt numb, anxious, confused, weak, righteous and strong and backed into a corner again. I felt like a caged animal with no sense of freedom. I also felt incredibly confused when my abusive partner was loving or kind at times.
    I understand.
Most importantly, I also understand the freedom that comes with healing from abuse. Healing IS possible. I found hope through my own healing journey with a therapist, and I have created a life that feels meaningful and purposeful to me. Healing is a powerful and life changing experience.
I know the possibilities that spring forth from having a safe space to share your story, to have a voice, to explore what is true for you and untangle all of the untruths you may hold about yourself from your abuse experience. I know that freedom comes from finding value in yourself and owning your thoughts and choices.
Not all therapists will understand the complex experience of abuse or the loss of self in relationship with another human being who was supposed to love you. My passion is working with individuals who feel lost, violated, abandoned, rejected, andoverwhelmed, either from an abusive partnerspouse relationship, or even by their family of origin.
