My Approach to Helping
Therapy provides an opportunity to re-define who we are and to gain a sense of focus and meaning in ones life. My training is in Psychoanalyic-psychotherapy or insight oriented psychotherapy. I also have extensive training in trauma and hold a level 3 certification in trauma informed stabilization. I do feel it is important to work in different modalities depending on the needs, wants and desires of the client. The benefit of in-depth type therapy is to uncover repeated patterns from our past that may interfere with our present relationships and life situations. Understanding and connecting to unconscious issues and working through these issues in a trusting, caring environment can help unblock and ultimately free one to live a more fulfilling life.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
Starting therapy can be very difficult. It can cause all kinds of fears and anxiety. My best advice is to see how you feel when you initially call the therapist for your first appointment. Do you feel comfortable with the therapist's manner, voice, way of speaking. Trusting yourself is important. If you do not feel comfortable you can always interview another therapist.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
When choosing a therapist, I believe it is importnat to look for a therapist who has had some type of post masters training or supervision. Most post masters training programs require a therapist to have their own psychotherapy. This is important so that the therpist can do their job effectively.
