My Approach to Helping
When you're in pain, you need someone who will listen carefully and compassionately and customize services to your needs. I track outcomes with you to determine if we're making progress and elicit feedback at the end of each session so that we can continue to improve your therapy experience with each session. Part of listening to you means that I am pro-choice when it comes to psychiatric medication and understand that while many find medication extremely vital, it can be neutral, or lead to unimaginable harm for others. I have specialized training in working with people who hear distressing voices, have frightening unusual beliefs, experiences of extreme fear sometimes called paranoia, and people who struggle with thoughts of wanting to die. Additionally, I have extensive training in using movement, body awareness, and sometimes even dance in sessions in ways that help you build confidence and reach your goals.
Lastly, my own lived experience of mental health struggles helped me to build compassion and understanding for people going through similar hardships. Although I think healing is a process that never ends, I have found significant relief from the issues that initially lead me to therapy, and live a fulfilling life that I'm proud of. I love to support others in finding the right combination of strategies that can relieve despair.
