My Approach to Helping
My name is Beverly Vanover and I am a licensed professional counselor with 10 years of experience working with adults dealing with mild to moderate emotional regulation issues around anger, anxiety, depression, and relationships. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy informed by the polyvagal and attachment theory, emphasizing mindfulness and self-regulation skills from a person-centered and solution-focused approach. I work with adults struggling with emotional regulation for emotions of anger, anxiety, depression, and desire to please that create barriers to inter and intra-personal effectiveness. I provide a client centered reflective listening and normalizing that allows a client to talk about their concerns and receive validation and understanding. I always got feedback from people in my life that I was a good listener and often people told me they felt better after telling me their story. I find that many clients improve their ability to self-regulate from emotions that cause physiological symptoms and report at least a 30% improvement as a result of an episode or care. I will provide standard intake questions. I will discuss my approach in more detail and invite the client to share any questions, comments, or concerns.
