My Approach to Therapy

You deserve to feel your best. I help people to free themselves from anxiety and live their lives fully. I am an engaged and active therapist. I will help you to identify a path forward and I will challenge you to take active steps towards the changes you desire.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Anxiety can show up in various ways. Below are some examples of difficulties I address with my clients: - Health anxiety, which can show up as worries about bodily sensations or symptoms, worries about getting sick or being diagnosed with a medical condition, or high levels of distress related to a diagnosed condition. Tinnitus distress is an example of a specific health-related anxiety that I treat. - Generalized anxiety, which is when you feel anxious and worry about many different things in life. - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which I treat with the gold standard, Exposure and Response Prevention, which I deliver with great sensitivity and compassion, while teaching you to build trust in yourself. - Social anxiety, which is when you fear social situations in which you feel self-conscious or fearful of being rejected or judged negatively. - Specific phobias, in which you fear and avoid a certain thing or situation. One example is emetophobia, the fear of vomiting. - Panic and panic attacks, which can cause you to feel constantly "on guard," waiting for attack. - Stress and burnout, which is when the stress of day-to-day life has overwhelmed your ability to cope and you need help to connect with that which nourishes you and helps you thrive. - Flashbacks, hypervigilance and other trauma-related symptoms which cause anxiety and can also interact with the other issues listed above. I have extensive training in trauma.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

Mental health problems often start out as ways of coping. When something bad happens, you might worry about what else could go wrong. This could lead you to over-prepare, try to control outcomes, and avoid certain situations. Over time, you may lose your ability to relax and enjoy life. I can help you to develop more effective skills and to reclaim your joy.
