My Approach to Helping
You deserve a counselor who "gets you." If you've been burned in the past, finding a competent counselor can be anxiety-provoking. You may be asking yourself: will this therapist judge me? Will they recognize my experiences as legitimate? Will they treat me like a person or a smorgasbord of symptoms? Those questions are completely justified. That's why I offer an alternative to traditional psychotherapy known as Identity Focused Counseling (IFC).
So, what the heck is IFC? In a nutshell, it means that I recognize you as a valid, complex human being--not a broken person in need of fixing. You can rest assured that I won't slap a diagnostic label on you or subject you to unhelpful "treatments." Despite my fancy Ph.D., I recognize that YOU are the sole expert of your own experiences.
So, how can I help? Well, I excel at helping folks feel more confident in their identity and in their relationships. If you're going through a difficult life transition, identify as transgender, gender diverse, queer, or questioning, I'd love to help you embrace your identity and experience belonging.
