My Approach to Helping
If you're here, there's a good chance you're feeling scattered, stuck, or like you're constantly falling behind, no matter how hard you try. Maybe your brain won’t slow down, or your motivation disappears the moment you need it most. You might be wondering if it’s always going to feel this hard to function in a world that wasn’t built for your kind of mind.
I get it—because I live it too. I specialize in working with adults with ADHD who are tired of masking, burning out, and feeling like they have to earn their rest. You don’t need more productivity hacks or shame. You need space to understand your brain, unlearn the “shoulds,” and build a life that actually works for you.
In our work together, I use a mix of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems, and nervous system tools to address both the practical and emotional sides of ADHD. We’ll talk executive functioning, sure, but we’ll also make space for grief, self-trust, and reclaiming your authenticity.
More Info About My Practice
At Wildly Authentic Counseling, we go beyond individual therapy to create community, education, and support for both clients and professionals. We offer an ongoing ADHD support group, an Intro to ADHD course for clients, and training for therapists looking to deepen their understanding of neurodivergence. Amy Schaet also provides clinical supervision, private practice mentorship, and is available for speaking engagements on topics like ADHD, trauma-informed care, and building an affirming therapy practice. Everything we do is grounded in authenticity, inclusivity, and honoring lived experience.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
My own struggles with ADHD, trauma, and identity work have shaped not just who I am, but how I show up as a therapist. I know what it?s like to feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, and like you're too much and not enough all at once. That lived experience helps me bring more compassion, less judgment, and a deep sense of attunement to the work I do. I don?t ask clients to go anywhere I haven?t been willing to go myself. Therapy with me is real, human, and rooted in the belief that healing is possible when you feel truly seen.
