This continuing education training will cover tools mental health practitioners need to start an online practice and provide effective telemental health treatment, as well as discuss five mistakes for clinicians to avoid when counseling online.
In this 2-hour web conference, Amber Alexander, MA, LPC-S, NCC, CCMHC, BC-TMH will examine indicators of the future of mental health care and discuss the possible benefits and risks of online counseling. Amber will cover ways online counseling can be beneficial for clinicians and their clients as well as tools that support clinicians in successfully practicing online. She will also unpack potential pitfalls for clinicians to avoid when providing online counseling.
Amber will review The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) distance counseling ethical guidelines and some of the major considerations required when counseling online. These considerations include required documentation, what needs to be included in informed consent, HIPAA concerns, screening clients, verifying client’s identity and location, and maintaining professional boundaries online.
