It's remarkable to me how often people go through life without ever being asked, in an empathically curious way, what they feel or think about any particular thing. People will often have parallel dialogues with one another without ever reflecting on one another's thoughts and feelings, perhaps except to disagree, criticize or dismiss. In an open and non-judgmental way, I help people develop this reflective capacity. A reflective capacity is essential for identifying not only one's values and goals, but more immediately for capturing and expressing one's feelings and needs. Unidentified/unexplored/unexpressed feelings and needs underly depression/anxiety and drive compulsive behaviors like drug/alcohol abuse, sexual addictions, eating disorders as well as infidelity and other relationship issues. A reflective capacity helps build the bonds of intimacy and a secure and enduring relationship. Reflective ability helps a person manage moods, feelings and behavior better A reflective capacity empowers a person to rehearse actions before taking them in order to optimize the outcome. With empathic curiosity, I help people build or strengthen their reflective capacity so that when they leave therapy they have greater clarity in the concerns and questions they originally brought to the therapy. An effective therapy must have this as a goal of treatment. To achieve this, I take a humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive approach. Also, I am trained in AF-EMDR (Attachment Focused - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

People often tell my how confident and at ease they feel with me. They are appreciative of my sensitive directness and practical approach to their issues. I am exceptionally responsive to new and current clients. When people call, I usually have an engaging phone conversation before setting an appointment. Even if it turns out that I am not a good fit for a caller, I will provide referrals to those who might be.

Throughout over 35 years of practice I have continued to study and train in leading edge knowledge and skills.
I deeply enjoy working with my clients.

My Role as a Therapist

My role as a therapist is to help people feel warmly accepted and emotionally safe so that they can share what's on their mind and in their heart without fear of judgement or criticism. I create an atmosphere of self exploration in which one can uncover inner creative resources to deal with pain/longings as well as choosing meaningful work and relationships and just tolerating the ups and downs of daily life.

As a therapist certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), my role is as a process consultant to help the couple see how they pull each other into negative interactions that leads to the impasse that makes them feel so stuck. I coach the couple on how to identify these patterns and how to change them in order to restore connection between them.

My role as an AF-EMDR therapist is to reduce or end the powerful body and mind charge that painful /traumatic/memories/incidents continue to have on one's life.
