My passion as a counselor comes from a strong belief that everyone deserves to be heard.
As a counselor, I recognize the uniqueness of each person's journey. Some are looking for companionship. Others are looking for answers. Still others may not be looking for anything all. Perhaps, it just may depend on the day.
Just as each person's life journey is unique, so each person's counseling experience. I am honored to work collaboratively with adults, teens and children as they navigate through their through their own journeys and life transitions. I strive to provide a safe, warm, and non-judgmental place for people to come to share their stories and make positive changes in their lives.
I have experience working with individuals and couples with various concerns including: grief, loss, and bereavement, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship issues, eating disorders, body image, stress management, substance abuse, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and trauma.
My work with clients emphasizes the importance of meaning within each individual's life. Within this existential framework, I utilize methods from cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy, expressive arts, and strength-based techniques.
I am a Resident in Counseling and practice under the supervision of Amy Stephens, LPC and George Coyne, LCSW. I earned my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marymount University. I maintain professional memberships in and actively engage with Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counselors (NVLPC), American Counseling Association (ACA), Association for Creativity in Counseling, and Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society (CSI).
I moved to the DC area from Cleveland to attend American University and never left. I earned my BA in Sociology. I earned my MA in Liberal Studies at Georgetown University. Before changing careers, I worked in the nonprofit sector in the areas of women's rights, human rights, and social justice.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I do much of my work around grief and loss. In today's hectic pace, we don't always allow ourselves - or each other - time to grieve. One of my passions as a counselor is to do my part to change that notion. Helping my clients with grief and loss includes not only matters of death and illness, but also job loss, infidelity, divorce, and relocation.
I also specialize in helping people with their struggle with binge eating disorder (BED) and with obesity.
