My Approach to Helping

I am passionate about helping people overcome self-doubt and life stressors in order to live a happy and healthy life. An important way to do this is through understanding how past experiences impact current problems and increase awareness about internal struggles leading to the cycle of anxiety or depression, self-doubt, and relationship stress. I provide a warm and collaborative style focused on clear communication to make the process as stress free as possible. I also think it is important to compassionately challenge you to explore how to live a more fulfilling life by overcoming strong feelings.

I see clients dealing with anxiety, depression, getting "unstuck" professionally, relationship difficulties, and managing stress. A particular area of interest is men's related issues as the types of problems or stressors often occurring with men can be as difficult to understand as they are to discuss. Short-term and long-term services are available. I also have offices in Alexandria, VA and Washington D.C. as well as evening hours available.

Overall, I use a psychodynamic approach focused on understanding how past experiences and relationships influence current difficulties and have been trained in a variety of other therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, and humanistic. I believe therapy needs be tailored to the unique needs of each person and think it is vital to do so in order to best address each client's difficulties. I do not see people as diagnoses but as unique individuals with a story to tell and different ways to deal with life's challenges.

While I am not in-network with any insurance providers, I am more than willing to assist you with the process of obtaining out of network reimbursement. Depending on your specific coverage, I would be happy to provide documentation needed to obtain reimbursement or submit claims on your behalf.

I have extensive training in conducting psychological evaluations including but not limited to cognitive testing, personality assessment, and forensic evaluations. I also have training in providing supervision to therapy trainees. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions and I wish you the best of luck in this process!

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Therapy can be a great way to understand how to best manage life stressors, deal with depression, and handle anxiety. It is a commitment to yourself to live a more fulfilling life by working through problems and grow as a person through increased self-awareness. Therapy can also be intimidating at first, which is why having a safe environment is vital to successfully overcoming difficulties. By openly and honestly discussing your experiences, therapy provides a place for you to look at yourself in a new way and focus on making improvements in order to live a happy and healthy life.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

The most important factor in any therapy being successful is having a collaborative therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable talking through your experiences with the therapist. While the use of specific techniques and modalities for specific types of problems is important, therapy in general is not effective unless there is a strong therapeutic relationship. I place a significant amount of focus on building this relationship through collaboration, authenticity, and clear communication. I also firmly believe the right fit between client and therapist is vital, so I provide a consultation phase to make sure clients feel comfortable talking through experiences and want to move forward in therapy.
