You have taken a brave first step in seeking someone to help you navigate through the issues that caused you to land on this page. Perhaps you are desperately hoping that this will be a solution that can help you feel whole again. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and to feel like you have a safe haven where you can explore the different aspects of your life that contribute to and are affected by the problems that are weighing you down. I know that right now things may seem hopeless. Perhaps you and your spouse have grown distant or you feel like you are failing as a parent. Maybe you have lost a sense of purpose and have trouble remembering what your hopes and dreams once looked like. You have already shown that you have what it takes to strengthen these areas by taking the first step of seeking help. We were never meant to navigate life on our own. Helping people sort through the rubble of their brokenness and find the foundation pieces they can use to rebuild is something I am passionate about. My Therapy Focus

While I have helped many different types of people with various issues, I am passionate about helping couples in their relationship issues - especially couples entering the empty nest who have grown apart while raising a family. I am also passionate about working with families with issues that affect the whole family, such as problem behaviors in a child as well as divorce and remarriage. Working with women dealing with life transitions is another focus area I have specialized in. Strengthening relationships of all types is my overarching focus in therapy.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

While I use a variety of interventions and approaches in therapy, I am strongly guided by systems theorists in my work. The difference between a systems approach and a traditional approach has to do with the focus of change. Traditional therapy methods tend to focus on first order change. That is, they treat a specific problem (symptoms). Systems theory focuses on second order change which looks at changing the system that created the problem. Mental health issues in individuals don't exist without the influence of other parts of the system such as the body, the spirit, the emotions, and relationships. At my core, I believe in whole person approaches to therapy. When one part of the system is out of whack, it throws the whole system off. Sometimes our systems get used to the "dance" they are doing regardless of whether it is the most efficient way to operate. When we correct and shift one area, the others all have to adjust to accommodate the change or they will either trip over one another causing pain or pull the part that changed back into the same old rhythm as before. Call me to see how we can get to the root of the problem and make the necessary adjustments to each area of your life affected by the problem.
