In my practice I seek to help others become able to work through the concerns that bring them into the session in a positive, holistic, natural way. I believe that one must take into account not only your thoughts, but also your experiences and environment to create the change that you feel you need to make. As such, I think a successful approach is to develop realistic skills related to the system you live within, and become able to conquer and improve upon negative thought and emotional patterns. I use a variety of approaches to individually address the needs of each individual I see. In terms of my experience, I have the most experience with working with individuals with concerns related to frustration and anger, developing coping skills, anxiety, trauma, adoption, depression, mood disorders, attachment issues, Autism/autism spectrum disorders, parenting issues, impulse control concerns, social skill issues, negative behaviors, transitional issues, and family oriented concerns. When I work with children and adolescents, I believe that a family-oriented approach is the most helpful overall, as the ultimate goal is for the child's behavior to improve, and for their parents to feel confident in their role as a parent with addressing and supporting the child's issues.

More Info About My Practice

I have worked extensively with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, especially in regard to helping to develop an understanding of the social world around, and how to become able to successfully engage others and navigate the many transitions of life. I accept some insurances and can assist with understanding benefits, whether in or out of network, and am willing to make use of a sliding scale if needed. My website has more comprehensive information regarding payment, fees, and insurance.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I firmly believe that therapy is a healthy, positive experience, and should be viewed as more than just a means to overcome obstacles, but rather as a means to fully develop and explore who you are as a person. I try to provide a warm, positive, empathetic environment that remains effective at addressing the concerns that brought you in, but also allows you to realize your potential in other areas as well.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

The therapy process is not anything close to the stereotypical idea of therapy that you see in popular culture. If you have any questions about what the process looks like or how it feels, please do not hesitate contact me. I'll gladly walk you through how the process works over the phone before you even decide if you want to schedule your first session, and I'll answer any questions you have. Don't be afraid to begin the process, it's worth it.
