My Approach to Helping
I believe that when challenges in life become overwhelming and lead to an unbalanced state of being, it is okay to ask for help. It is in fact, perfectly normal to seek consultation outside of family, friends and clergy for extra support. My role is to provide a safe, confidential space where clients can explore with me ways to make their lives work well and figure out how to suffer less in the face of adversity. There is a place of wisdom; self-generating healing, calm and peace within that therapy can help guide a person in distress towards. I would like to be such a helper, and co-facilitate a powerful process that leads to self-discovery, more hopefulness and transformation by intentional design.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Clients who are struggling with life transition issues related to career, academic pursuits, or relational based disappointments have sought me out to help them figure out how to arrive at decision that reflect what is best for them in terms of work, love and play. I have been able to encourage more expansive thinking that leads to positive action oriented steps toward a more engaged, meaningful, and purposeful way of being in the world. It is an honor to be invited in to witness the kind of exploration that leads to more self-knowledge, self-care and more satisfying relationships with others.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a process to be trusted, facilitated by a caring, compassionate person who provides access to very powerful tool kits full of possibilities and suggested practices that are intentionally designed with well-being in mind; for the purposes of helping clients initiate better self-care, increase self-knowledge and enhance interpersonal relationships.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

Establishing rapport is essential before any good therapy can begin. In the initial session, I set the tone for our work together by showing respect for their courage to show up in the first place, validating their present emotional state, and serving as a container for the heaviness as well as holder of hope. By acknowledging the process of change that sometimes feels worse before it gets better, clients eventually come to the conclusion that feelings only tell a part of a complex narrative unfolding, and together we have an opportunity to expand their life story.
