My Approach to Helping

Because of 40 years experience doing and teaching therapy I have a wide variety of techniques to empower clients to achieve their goals as quickly as possible. I am an active, action oriented therapist. In my opinion it is usually a waste of time for clients to talk about their phobias, depression or panic attacks. I take responsibility to teach the client(s) mental and behavioral skills so they leave my office empowered after every session. I use whatever technique will get results as quickly and effectively as possible. It might be hypnosis or gestalt or communication training or giving a paradoxical prescription. Whatever works. When a client returns for the next session I don't ask: "how are you feeling?" I ask: "What changes did you make this week?" Because of my long life and career I can establish rapport quickly withi most anyone. I have been a farmer and a graduate school professor. I have traveled in 36 countires and lectured in six of them. I ski and scuba dive, play tennis and golf, and play classical and ragtime piano and I grew up riding a quarter horse. I am a husband, father and grandfather. I am comfortable with everyone and I am told everyone quickly gets comfortable with me.

More Info About My Practice

I know you are doing the best you can with the skills you have. It's my job to help you learn some new skills so you can solve personal and relational problems better and better. The mind is much like a computer For example, if you just can't stop obsessing about an awful experience in your past, your computer needs updating. Your mind is designed to do that quickly, sometines in just one session , withthe proper guidance. It's nonsense that therapy has to go on and on. We are designed to make changes quickly. My clients often report they are surprised they are no longer fearful or anxious like they were for 20-30 years.
