My Approach to Helping

I believe an effective therapist believes that everyone can change and grow and is able to feel respect for whatever a client is experiencing. I see the most effective insights and true healing in therapy as coming from within the client. The therapist's job is to help clients access their inner world and experience their inner wisdom or "core" self. They need to learn to use this non-traumatized part of themselves to nurture and heal their wounded parts so that these immature parts will no longer take over and run their lives. In addition to working collaboratively, I feel it is essential that I am honest with clients and ask I them to be honest with me. I don't see a lot of difference between development of the self and spirituality or development of the soul. I believe the modality that successfully serves both is mindfulness. Finally, I use strategies that are based on replicated research showing that they are effective in addressing client goals. When compared with other modalities, Cognitive Behavior Therapy has been shown to be the most effective. In couple therapy, Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy has proven most effective.
