My Approach to Helping

The approach I use in helping people is called a narrative approach, and it is a respectful approach to working with people that is different from more traditional methods. It views problems as separate from people as opposed to problems residing within people, and it puts people in the driver's seat in developing a preferred "story" or way of living.During our conversations, I am curious about times when the problems have been smaller in your life, or even non-existent; I believe that problems never take 100% control in people's lives. I am also curious about what you put value to, your hopes, dreams and commitments. By thickening these preferred stories, the influence of the "problem stories" are reduced using the skills that people have within themselves! It's a beautiful way of working!
