Eating disorders. I bring energy, enthusiasm, experience, and enthusiasm to working with eating disorders. I resist formulaic solutions and emphasize that one size does not fit all. In addition, I use a collaborative approach that respects the rights of clients to follow their preferences.
All therapy is not the same. Psychotherapy can ultimately help nearly everyone, but not every psychotherapist can. Our profession knows from research it is primarily about the fit or connection between the therapist and client. If you're a client who has had negative experiences, keep trying and seek out therapists with *different* styles.
It is critical. It is most of what determines success or failure in therapy. Clients can expect first of all someone who listens. The best relationships are those that work on goals chosen by the client, in methods suitable to the client. Expect the therapist to elicit, listen to, and respond constructively to all feedback from clients.
This is an immensely complex area in which volumes has been written. But something important to know is that psychotherapy affects biochemistry! The very same changes seen in research with medications are also seen when clients respond positively to psychotherapy. Even when dealing with genetics, we know that experience can affect gene expression and even turn genes on or off. So, our software (our minds!) is a lot more powerful than we thought!
