My Approach to Helping
A psychotherapeutic relationship provides a safe, empathic, and private space that encourages a person or couple to increase awareness and understanding of sense of self and relationship dynamics, empowers a person or couple to find effective problem resolution, and improves relationships. While on the surface many people suffer from similar symptoms or problems, it is clear that people can progress only when their unique experiences and backgrounds are valued and attended to carefully.

Providing a comfortable and understanding space to discuss difficult topics is crucial for a person or couple to gain trust in the process of therapy. I strongly believe in an individual's and couple's ability to optimize their creativity, productivity, satisfaction in relationships and overall happiness through the therapeutic process.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My specialty area is working with couples and individuals with relationship issues and concerns. Effective and respectful communication; increased physical and emotional intimacy; conflict resolution; life transitions; extended family issues; reconciling parenting styles; identity crises are some of the areas in which I have assisted couples and individuals. Couples therapy involves processing and overcoming the obstacles that impede full and loving relationships. With the therapist, the couple comes to view honestly the ways they are interacting with each other and the reasons they are relating to each other in this fashion. Once these patterns are recognized and the origins of them are understood, the couple can work on replacing their negative behaviors and feelings toward one another with more loving ones. In other words, couples therapy increases awareness of the origins of unhealthy relating as well as provides skills to improve the style of relating. Couples are encouraged to describe honestly the nature of their difficulties or areas where they feel they need to grow. Over time, therapy can help the couple develop an increased attunement to and love for each other. .

How Psychotherapy Can Help

When patterns of the mind and behavior are brought to light and understood more fully and openly, for both couples and individuals, they often cease to be repeated. Alternative, healthier ways of being can emerge and result in a positive change in feelings and thoughts about the self and the relationship. Symptoms improve, an increase in security and fulfillment in relationships arises, and a more creative, meaningful and productive life is the result. It is through a safe, empathic, and confidential therapeutic relationship where an individual or couple can uncover and resolve that which may be stifling growth and wellbeing.
