My Approach to Helping
I see the best in people. I try to help the person in recovery, or working towards recovery visualize a "new normal" for themselves where life can be good again. I believe that if people have the right 'tool bag' to overcome addiction that they can indeed recover.
Working with people with other mental health issues is always a collaborative approach. I try to involve the family, if possible and am quick to create a treatment team to give the client the best chance at feeling mentally well again.

More Info About My Practice
I do not take insurance, but I can provide you with a Super-Bill, or I can complete a claim form for you so that your insurance will reimburse you out-of-network.
I offer affordable therapy and a sliding scale for clients with demonstrated financial difficulty. My regular fee is $125.00 per session.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I hold an Alcohol and Other Drug Certification as well as my license as an MFT. I am passionate about working with people with addiction issues. The disease model of addiction interests me and I enjoy seeing people do well and recover. I understand the stages of addiction, including the relapse process and I believe in 12-step programs and I feel a strong sense of empathy for the person suffering from this disease. I have worked with clients with mood-disorders/thought disorders such as Bi-Polar Disorder and Schizophrenia and do feel that I can be of help to both the client and their family.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

It helps to educate them so they feel less confused about what is happening to them, it provides people with tools to manage their lives themselves and it creates action in their lives which reduces feelings of helplessness.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

To provide the client with an opportunity to develop a mental \\\'tool-box\\\' of coping skills and education so that he or she can feel empowered to tackle their mental health challenges on their own. Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to form a unique and intimate bond with a therapist, and this relationship can, and does heal many of the struggles arising out of attachment and bonding issues, and low self-esteem. It is a safe place to process problems and to feel understood and listened to.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I feel passionate about psychotherapy because it works! I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist is inherently healing. I know there are some very serious mental illnesses; Schizophrenia, Addiction, and Bipolar Disorder for example and I believe that the intervention of therapy can provide support, comfort, education and empowerment and healing. Some disorders, like schizophrenia have a biological component to them and psychotherapy can offer ongoing support and guidance and resources to families who are the caretakers for these men and women.

My Role as a Therapist

I am a guide, a teacher and an educator. I hold people in high regard and want people to feel hopeful that their situation can improve. I encourage people to take control of their lives and feel a sense of self efficacy and empowerment; and I enjoy playing a role in their journey.
