My Approach to Helping
I use several therapy models to meet my clients where they are and to let them lead the way to their healing. I offer a nonjudgmental setting for clients to label and express their feelings and experiences as I reflect back to the clients what I am hearing. It is my goal to facilitate healing and change through this process of reflecting, clarifying, and labeling what the client brings into therapy session. Since I work with clients from childhood through adulthood, this work might take different forms from play therapy to talk therapy. I will also suggest certain therapy models to best address a specific concern. I generally use a family systems approach for much of my work, acknowledging that individual clients are impacted by the dynamics between them and their family members. Similarly, I consider a systems model when working with clients and families, again with an awareness of the many variables that may be impacting the client. It is my belief that each client brings the skills and strengths that will be needed to address the therapy goals.
