My Approach to Helping
My name is Vicki, and I have a Master's degree in Community Health and a Masters's degree in Clinical Social Work. As my farmer friend would say, "I am awfully educated!" I have clinical experience in all dimensions of mental health, in inpatient, community settings, and office practice. I have met with people in schools, libraries, restaurants, churches, ERs, hospitals, homes, at bedsides, and parks. Wherever they were comfortable. I have used the telephone and computer to provide treatment.
Counseling and therapy are very personal processes, and it takes time to feel trusted and comfortable in a therapeutic relationship. My job is to listen and as you identify your issues and concerns, We will explore alternatives to change to help you experience a healthier and happier life. On a case-by-case basis, I incorporate expressive therapies, creative writing, literature, and other art forms.
One day, I was working with a young teenage girl and we were discussing totems, and I stated that mine was The Butterfly, and I wondered if it was the right totem for me.
I am a Native American Indian and I said, "Let's go ask my grandfather," so we did. When I told him my totem was the butterfly, he said, "Perfect!". The Butterfly is about change, and you help people change! "
That is what I would like to do with you. Find that change to a happier, healthier life!
