My Approach to Helping
I normally work with an adult population and have an easy time engaging with clients who are motivated to change for the better and to heal from life long wounds that are subconscious or conscious. My nearly 30 years of working in the field of psychotherapy has provided me a great deal of insight into why people behave the way they do. I am solution focused in terms of problem-solving that often barricade people to find a way through and beyond their difficulties. I implement insight-oriented narrative therapy to define what their strengths are and coping skills in order to resolve grief, trauma, depression, and anxiety issues. I am sensitive to where people's boundaries are but am also bold in my approach at times to help people define how they get in their own way of true resolution. I am a dual diagnosis clinician meaning I work as a clinical social worker but also as a certified addictions counselor Level II. My aim is to instill a sense of hope toward their progress and a vision for a brighter, more stable future through cognitive therapy and mindfulness training. I am a veteran and have a vast history of working with Medicare populations who often have a wide range of medical and mental health issues which often includes a senior demographic. Lastly, I often provide faith based counseling to those that can use their faith as a strength to reach their goals.
