My Approach to Helping

I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Science in Human Services from the University of North Texas followed by a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. I am licensed by the Texas State Board of Professional Counselors.

I have been trained in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, gerontology, and accelerated resolution therapy (ART). I am an experienced counselor who has worked with adolescent and adult individuals, groups, and couples. I tailor my treatment to the unique needs of my client and work with the client to establish realistic, obtainable goals. I have extensive experience with dually occurring mental health issues and medical illnesses including the disease of addiction. I am an experienced therapist who has worked in some of the premier addiction treatment centers within the state of Texas, including La Hacienda and Enterhealth Ranch.

My specialty areas include treatment of posttraumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, depression, substance addiction, LGBTQIA support, mood disturbances, phobias, aging, HIV, death and dying, and relationship stress.

I have special interests in assisting individuals and families in accepting, understanding, and navigating issues related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and LGBTQIA needs, including the developmental process of coming out and co-occurring medical concerns. I am an active member of the LGBTQIA community and frequently provide presentations at conferences.

I am passionate about my care and treatment. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard; feel safe and secure; heal and grow; and become the best version of themselves by being supportively challenged to think, feel and behave in a healthier manner. I provide a non-judgmental, safe, and supportive environment for clients to heal.
