My Approach to Helping

My approach to therapy is an integrative one, allowing me to tailor treatment to each individual based on their unique strengths, limitations, needs, and goals. I believe that the alliance between client and therapist is one of the most important factors in therapy outcome, so I always strive to build a collaborative professional relationship with my clients that is based on trust and mutual respect. I do this by showing my clients unconditional positive regard that honors their individuality and their ability to choose their own path (self-determination). I provide a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore and process their issues and concerns. I also encourage clients to learn and develop the skills necessary to create and maintain positive changes in their life long beyond their time in therapy.

While I am highly skilled in mental health assessment and diagnosis, I believe that a diagnosis is merely one tool for informing treatment. Regardless of diagnosis, it's very important to me to treat the individual rather than the label. I also strive to help my clients enhance and add value to their lives in addition to alleviating their bothersome symptoms.

More Info About My Practice

I am a master's level psychologist and the owner of Goscicki Psychotherapy Services, PLLC. I earned my master's degree from Wayne State University in Counseling Psychology in 2014, and I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Honors from Wayne State University (2011). I am trained to work with individuals across the lifespan as well as couples and families; however, I currently work with adult individuals only as this has been my specific area of focus and expertise. I also have extensive knowledge of psychological assessment and diagnosis of psychopathology and the psychotherapeutic treatment of mental and behavioral health issues ranging from mild to severe.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Anxiety, Depressive and Bipolar Disorders, Addiction, Adjustment Issues, Stage of Life Issues, Relationship Conflicts, Communication Issues, Low Self-Esteem, Career Counseling

My Role as a Therapist

I think the most important aspect of my role as a therapist is to be a teacher and guide. I teach my clients how to solve their own problems and guide them through the change process rather than telling them exactly what to do or how to do it. I believe that it is crucial that the individuals I work with have a sense of ownership over the decisions they make so that change can be long-lasting and not dependent on them remaining in therapy.
