My Approach to Helping
Are you feeling overwhelmed or stressed out? Have you been through some traumatic or very distressing experiences? I can help!
At times, life throws us a curve ball, and we don't know what to do. Often the messages we receive from family, friends, or the public tell us to shrug it off and keep it moving. What happens when we can't? We end up feeling like there is something wrong with us, and that's when the "shoulds" start flooding in. "I should be over this," "I should be able to handle this," etc. Sound familiar? If you find yourself in that place, give me a call and we can figure this out together!
My approach to therapy is to provide a warm, open, and accepting environment. I collaborate with you in establishing treatment goals and developing treatment plans. I do not believe that one specific type of treatment works for everyone. Therefore, I strive to offer an integrative approach based on your needs resulting in a very individualized treatment. In addition, I am a certified Yoga Instructor and I incorporate yoga and relaxation into my therapeutic approach.
More Info About My Practice
I realize that during these hectic times coming to office visits can be difficult and poses an obstacle to receiving mental health services. Therefore, I offer concierge services with enough flexibility in my schedule and treatment locations (online or face-to-face) to meet your needs. We can either meet in person at my office or through video counseling similar to skype. I am also available by phone, email, or texting.
Please contact me if you have further questions or if you wish to begin your journey to mental wellness. I offer free 15-minute initial phone consultations to determine if we are a good fit.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Although I am well-versed at helping individuals with different mental health needs, I have extensive experience working with Veterans and folks with trauma. Traumatic experiences can present themselves in many different ways, and the most important thing to consider is how YOU felt during the experience. Often people get dismissed by others when they try to share what happened to them. I offer acceptance and warmth to let you know you are being heard!
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I believe the purpose of therapy is to help individuals, couples, or families to navigate through life's circumstances. Therefore, no problem is "too big or too small" to be addressed through therapy. We all need a little help figuring things out from time to time. As a result, therapy can be short-term (i.e. 6-8 sessions) or long-term (i.e. years) depending on what issues are being addressed.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
You may feel hesitant about opening up to others. Maybe you even had negative experiences with therapy in the past. It's important for you to know that you set the direction and pace for therapy because without you therapy cannot work! That is why I use a flexible approach to therapy that is guided by your needs.
