My Approach to Helping

Compassionate, down to earth, and being an authentic human being is my approach. I meet you where you are at and do not judge you for the decisions you have made or the way you are currently handling a challenging situation. Life can be tough - at times we all make choices, take action, or cope in a way that is not in our best interests. We may do this because its what we learned growing up, it was the only way we could survive at the time, or maybe it was the first thing we thought of.

I consider myself a holistic, integrative therapist where challenges are not dealt with in isolation. When we experience a challenge, most of the time it doesn't affect just one area of our life - but many areas can get out of balance. That is why I explore with someone their relationships with family and friends, their career, and most importantly, the relationship they have with themselves.

After helping people work through the day to day struggles that a challenge might create, I like to get to the root cause of what is creating this challenge. I want to help make a deep and lasting change, not just help surface level problems or situations.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I help people get unstuck. It's easy to get bogged down with the day to day business of life and the negative self-talk, losing ourselves in the process. Sometimes we can feel so disconnected from ourselves...we can forget our life dreams.

I help people get on the path to reconnecting to themselves. I am unique in my skill set that I can include career counseling and relationship counseling if someone is feeling stuck in those areas. People that I have worked with have said that they have found it very helpful and having a long lasting impact because we are able to focus on how different challenge areas in their life were affecting them in multiple ways.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I think this is one of the best jobs in the world (and I do a lot of career counseling). Its amazing to experience with individuals the ups and downs on their journey. Every time someone shares with me something deeply personal, positive or negative, I am always touched and feel privileged that they want to share it with me.

I love how I am able to make a human connection. With so much noise and distractions in our lives, I feel very lucky that most of my days are focused on what makes life real and meaningful. When I hear a sad experience, I can shed a tear. When a couple reconnects or strengthens their bond, my heart can feel warm and tingly. When a person lands their dream job, I can get excited. I don't know any other job where you get to do this.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

I think very brave people go to therapy. I can not think of many things that are harder than exploring the parts of ourselves that we are afraid to know or have disconnected from. Starting down a path into the unknown, not knowing where it can lead, is scary because we don't know if it will be lead to more pain, trauma, or disappointment. I think it is a brave person that travels down this road, not someone who is weak.

Nobody is perfect and we all have flaws, including myself. It is what makes us human. Going to therapy to "address a flaw", to me sounds like someone who is on a path for continual growth and self-learning. They want to improve themselves and learn to become more self-aware. I would not consider this a "flawed person", but someone who shows the world what it is like to be vulnerable and strong at the same time.
