My Approach to Helping
As a therapist, my goal is to assist you in making positive changes in your life. I am dedicated to being a safe place for you to feel all of your feelings while you learn to cope and make progress in a more healthy and positive direction. I am ready to help you work through and cope with depression and anxiety, traumatic experiences and relationship challenges. My hope is that our work together will leave you feeling strong, empowered and will have helped you gain understanding and insight into using healthy tools to manage life's more difficult moments.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Throughout my years of practice I have found a niche in both CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) (working with angerdefiance and opposition) with adults and children, as well as TF-CBT (Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I have enjoyed working with clients to change their mindset about a stressor from something extremely painful or triggering, into something they can cope with through everyday life. Progress isn't about making change overnight - progress is about the journey you go on to achieve that change and that journey is what keeps my passion going.
In addition to these modalities, I am also skilled at providing Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
I've met my share of people (some in my own family and usually out-loud and directly to me) who wonder why therapy even matters. My response varies based on the person, but the common thread for everyone is that if you have something going on in your life that is disruptive (a little or a lot), wouldn't you try anything to help alleviate the symptoms of that disruption? Most of them, at this point, do that little small frown 'hm' thing that people do when they aren't convinced fully, but maybe something they heard made sense to them and we move on to engage in other conversation. I am passionate about helping people and even if you are feeling like you aren't sure that therapy is the answer, I'd like to be part of your journey to figuring out if it is right for you! Spoiler alert, therapy isn't right for everyone - and that is OK, at least you tried!
