My Approach to Helping
Effective treatment inspires measureable positive change. I provide compassionate and results-oriented therapy that is focused on helping individuals develop the emotional tools and life skills necessary to achieve their goals, get the most out of their interpersonal relationships and ultimately take responsibility for their personal growth and happiness. I am Linehand Board Certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidenced-based treatment for people who have difficulty managing their emotions, relationships and behaviors. My approach to therapy is to provide empirically based interventions in a warm, playful and transparent manner. When appropriate, I teach mindfulness and behavior change strategies in order to promote psychological flexibility and overall well-being.
More Info About My Practice
My specialty is working with treatment-resistant anxiety and depression, mood instability, disordered eating, substance abuse/dependence and impulsivity. I have particular interest in working with those who feel stuck and want a new approach to therapy that is collaborative, goal-oriented and psychoeducational in nature.
17 randomized clinical trials in 14 independent sites have shown that DBT reduces problem behavior, increases emotional stability, reduces/eliminates self-harming, reduces/eliminates suicidal urges/actions (and hospitalizations), improves functioning and communication in relationships, reduces/eliminates alcohol/drug abuse, and reduces/eliminates binge eating and bulimia among other compulsions.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I specialize in emotional dysregulation which often results in chaotic relationships, inability to control impulses, self-destructive behaviors, self-harm and suicidal ideation. I also have particular interest in working with couples who want an evidenced-based therapy that is collaborative, goal-oriented and psycho-educational in nature: the Gottman Method.
