My Approach to Helping

I am Sarah Touvell (Sheherhers), a Licensed Independent Social Worker - Supervisor (I.2102579-SUPV) with a deep commitment to helping individuals heal and grow. I received my Masters degree in social work from Ohio State University in 2017. For the past 9+ years, I have worked with adults of all ages from diverse backgrounds in community mental health. A significant part of my work has revolved around helping individuals who have experienced abuse in relationships. For the past 4 years, I have worked primarily with people living with HIV, and the LGBTQ+ community providing individual counseling.

I understand the impact of trauma on mental health and overall well-being, and it drives me to create a safe and supportive environment for my clients as they navigate their healing journey. I firmly believe in building a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship with each client. It is the foundation on which all progress and growth are built. By cultivating this trust, I create a space where individuals can feel safe enough to explore their emotions, challenge negative thought patterns, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

My training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy has allowed me to effectively process trauma, giving my clients a path to healing they might not have known existed. I believe in the power of an eclectic therapeutic approach, drawing from various modalities like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and more. Each client's uniqueness deserves an approach that meets their specific needs and goals.
I am genuinely passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of others, and I continue to stay informed about the latest research and evidence-based practices to provide the most effective care possible. Helping my clients find their inner strength and resilience is what inspires me every day, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journeys towards healing and empowerment.
