What's My Approach to Therapy?
I believe healing begins when we feel safe enough to slow down, listen to our bodies, and meet ourselves with care. Much of what we carry shows up not only in our thoughts and emotions but also in the nervous system and body. My role is to provide a steady space where you can notice what is happening inside, find balance, and open to new ways of relating to yourself and to others.
My approach draws on Somatic Experiencing, Transforming Touch, and attachment-based healing, along with the insights of polyvagal theory. Early experiences often shape how we connect with ourselves and the world. When those experiences are disrupted, we may carry patterns of tension, disconnection, or self-doubt. Through gentle touch, nervous system support, and relational presence, we create the conditions for your body to settle and for new, healthier pathways to take root.
I work with adults and adolescents navigating trauma, anxiety, stress, or relationship challenges, as well as those seeking a deeper sense of presence and connection. I also work with children through a regulation-based approach that is creative and playful, while supporting deeper attachment and early developmental repair. In our work together we may pay attention to breath, posture, and sensations alongside the stories and feelings that arise. These experiences hold wisdom and can guide us toward awareness and change.
Clients often describe me as calm, present, and approachable. I trust that you are already doing your best with the challenges you have faced. Together we will move at a pace that feels supportive, finding a rhythm between safety and growth.
My Practice & Services
My practice is built on the belief that healing happens in many forms, whether through one-on-one counseling, shared community experiences, or creative exploration. Alongside individual and relational therapy, I also offer workshops, professional trainings, and community events focused on body awareness, trauma healing, and presence. These gatherings provide opportunities to learn, connect, and experience the power of somatic practice in a group setting.
Sessions are tailored to meet both your needs and your circumstances. While a standard session is 60 minutes, shorter or extended times are available, and we can adjust frequency together to help therapy feel sustainable and supportive.
I am currently accepting new clients, with both day and evening appointments available. At this time I do not accept insurance, but I can provide you with billing documents to submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement. The standard session rate is $180 for 60 minutes, and most payment forms are accepted. In addition to in-person sessions, I also offer online counseling for individuals located in Ohio.
Please feel free to contact me by email at info@NicholasBoltonCounseling.com or schedule directly through my Client Portal. I welcome questions and curiosities and can provide a quick phone consultation upon request. More information is available on my website: www.NicholasBoltonCounseling.com
My practice is a safe and inclusive space for people of all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. I look forward to the possibility of connecting with you.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
When we go through stress or trauma, our nervous system adapts to help us survive. These adaptations can be invisible and may look like tension, over-efforting, shutting down, or always feeling on edge. We do our best to manage, and often put forth great effort just to hold things together. Over time this can leave us exhausted, overwhelmed, and relying on hidden compensations and defensive accommodations that may not even be visible to us. Much of our culture only addresses symptoms, which can make it harder to recognize and heal the deeper patterns underneath.
Psychotherapy offers a way back toward balance. Instead of focusing only on surface struggles, we go to the core and work with the physiology. By supporting regulation, the nervous system can begin to slowly shift its set point. With more regulation comes more space for presence, choice, and possibility. Healing becomes not only possible but probable.
This process is not about pushing or forcing change but about creating the right conditions for healing to unfold. Through presence, attunement, and co-regulation, old protective patterns can begin to loosen. The body has the opportunity to repair at a deep physiological and even cellular level.
Because many wounds begin in relationship, therapy also offers a new relational experience. Being met with care, consistency, and respect can restore safety and connection, which allows lasting change to take root. Over time, this work supports people in feeling more grounded in their bodies, more connected in their relationships, and more at ease in daily life.
