My Approach to Helping
I am a marriage and family therapist and professional clinical counselor with a Masters in Clinical Psychology with Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and Registered Drama Therapist with training from the Drama Therapy Institute of Los Angeles. I am trained in mindfulness based cognitive therapy, mindfulness meditation certified teacher, advanced dialectical behavioral therapy, EMDR including flash technique, certified grief counselor, certified eating disorder specialist, family systems, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion focused therapy, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic and Ericksonian approach to hypnotherapy. I have experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. My areas of focus are mood disorders especially depression and anxiety, dual diagnosis, addictions, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, parenting, blended families, chronic pain and suicidal ideation.
I am collaborative in my work with clients and use integrative therapies as my orientation stating that not one particular approach works with all individuals. I believe that change is a process that is best facilitated by genuine positive regard, empathy, and a nonjudgmental stance toward treatment, as well as, receptivity to therapeutic change.
I consider myself fortunate to be a conduit of love and light to those who are experiencing distress, uncertainty, sadness and going through challenging times in life. To be there for someone at their lowest or even when they are feeling their best and in need of additional support; and see their transformation to a happier, healthier, and integrated self is one of the greatest gifts of being a clinician. Every individual is unique and their stories interwoven with a rich tapestry of varied emotions that need an outlet. I am happy to be the support person for them when they do. Additionally, I consider myself humbled and honored to be a witness to them. My work as a clinician is meaningful and complete only because of the ones I help and not at the exclusion of them. I integrate the abstract, creative, philosophical, and introspective aspects of life with friendliness, compassion, and care to make myself approachable to those I serve. To that end, I cannot wait to walk the path with you in your journey toward hope and healing.
