Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship.

Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues with your partner?
I am very comfortable working with traditional, poly/open and queer couples/ partners. I can assist you and your partner to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which focuses on creating the emotional safety and understanding for intimacy to flourish. More about how I work with couples in my 'Good Therapy' video, to watch the whole (3-4 minute) video go to my website.

As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to get off the fasting/ feasting cycle and empower them to start creating the life and relationships they want.

Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and Depth Hypnosis. EMDR is a well researched method that has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I have found Depth Hypnosis to be equally effective as EMDR. I also help my clients release trauma using somatic psychotherapies. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch.

Finally as a former astrologer I can offer readings. Some of my clients find astrology a useful adjunct to their therapy, as it can provide a unique transpersonal perspective on an old issue or problem..

I also offer psychedelic integration to facilitate integration of non ordinary states of consciousness. It can be helpful to have a safe, nonjudgemental space to integrate states of mind and being that often transcend cultural and social norms.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

How do I start finding a therapist for myself?

Asking friends for recommendations or researching online are probably the most common methods. Look for a therapist who has knowledge about what you?re dealing with. I recommend interviewing initially on the telephone. How does the therapist work with your particular issues? What is their training and background?

If you like what you hear and you feel like a good initial connection was made, arrange for a session. Sometimes therapists will give an initial half session for an interview.

I recommend interviewing at least two or three therapists before deciding. This can be challenging as you are essentially meeting a stranger and talking about intimate aspects of your life. If you are not in crisis, it is better to pace your interviews.

When you have done all the above it is time to decide. Which therapist did you feel really understood what you are dealing with? Was a good connection made? Do you feel like you could trust this person? Do they have the expertise to help you?

In the end choosing a therapist is largely an intuitive process. Despite all their credentials or the recommendations given, if you didn?t feel a connection this therapist is not for you. Trust your heart and go with your gut.
