My Approach to Helping
Hello! My name is Joanna. Our meetings are a nonjudgmental space for you to resolve traumatic memories; process your family background; explore your strengths and values; and learn healthy communication and coping skills. I also specialize with young adults who grew up in high-control religious or homeschooling environments, who want to process their past and create a future that feels true to them. My own life experiences in this background, and wanting to support others from similar backgrounds, is the reason I became a therapist.
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a National Certified Counselor. I'm trained in EMDR therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and also helpful for anxiety and depression. I am caring, creative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. I adjust our sessions to whatever is most helpful for you, whether that is talking, hands-on activities, or both.
My priority is for you to feel safe, welcome, and understood. Clients say that they can tell I truly care and that our therapy process has helped them create positive changes in their lives. This is the best kind of feedback I can get--and I am so grateful to be in this role. Please call or email me to ask any questions, or to discuss starting therapy soon.
