My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
People pursue counseling or therapy for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's a general sense that life isn't what it could be. Maybe it's feelings of depression or anxiety. Some need help for relationship problems, whether with a friend, family member, or romantic partner. Others are overwhelmed by stress or have suffered a loss.
During therapy, a trained therapist helps you examine your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, including your interactions with others. Many people think struggling means there's something wrong with them, but the truth is that life is complex, and so are human beings. The therapeutic process helps people better understand themselves, enhancing their sense of self and improving their relationships. Many therapeutic strategies can effectively alleviate anxiety or depression.
