My Approach to Helping

I have over 23 years experience in the psychotherapeutic treatment of individuals, couples and groups.

I am an experienced specialist in assessing and providing psychotherapy for clients presenting with mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, and a variety of anxiety disorders which may include generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder or specific phobias. I also provide therapy for post traumatic stress disorder.

I also provide therapy for individuals, or couples, who present with difficulty in relationship issues.

I hold a Masters Degree in Psychology from The Citadel (Charleston SC) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina (at Coastal).

I am licensed by the state of South Carolina as a Professional Counselor.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

People pursue counseling or therapy for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's a general sense that life isn't what it could be. Maybe it's feelings of depression or anxiety. Some need help for relationship problems, whether with a friend, family member, or romantic partner. Others are overwhelmed by stress or have suffered a loss.

During therapy, a trained therapist helps you examine your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, including your interactions with others. Many people think struggling means there's something wrong with them, but the truth is that life is complex, and so are human beings. The therapeutic process helps people better understand themselves, enhancing their sense of self and improving their relationships. Many therapeutic strategies can effectively alleviate anxiety or depression.
