My Approach to Helping
Clients I work with especially well are curious, introspective, willing to dig deep, and and interested in becoming more compassionate towards self and others. They aren’t afraid to look at their feelings in the here-and-now or reflect on how our relationship functions within the therapy while working towards improving and enriching it. Many of my clients have experienced complex trauma; almost all have felt disconnected or alienated; overwhelmed, confused, or misunderstood. They ultimately want to connect with others and with life, despite it sometimes being challenging and painful. And they can appreciate a bit of humor at times.
My approach is strongly rooted in depth psychology (approaches that attend to formative experiences and the role of the unconscious, symbolism, and archetypal issues); however, I am also very well-versed in CBT. I tend to be quite active in sessions and give a lot of feedback. I combine empathy, compassion, and support with challenge towards growth.
I have over 30 years of experience with diverse individuals in a wide range of mental health settings . I am a caring and dedicated therapist who often goes the extra mile to explore new approaches, perspectives, and resources to help my clients. I highly value creative and artistic expression, and I help my clients tap into their strengths and passions.
