My Approach to Helping
I help others learn how to heal from trauma and relationship wounds in order to move forward. I believe therapy is part of a conscious choice for not only self-care, but more than that, self improvement. What's really incredible is the major shift occurring in the world of mental health. New science has revealed that while in the past we regarded people as "mostly unchangeable", that has proven to be largely untrue. The link between neuroscience, psychology, and epigenetics (the study of how environmental influences -such as a child's experiences- actually affect gene expression) is exciting. We have learned that people can and do, in fact, change. This gives each of us exciting hope for ourselves and others. Many times clients come to me because they are suffering due someone else's actions. They are often stuck in a cycle which is emotionally draining and unproductive. I listen intently to fully understand you and then help you create a plan so that you're armed with the necessary tools and support to navigate whatever you're facing.
Establishing a safe space where you can "say the unsayable" while being seen and heard is paramount. I use a no-nonsense, practical approach which is clear and easy to understand. I don't believe therapy has to be tears and sadness, although sometimes it might be. I believe a sense of humor does at times have its place in the therapy room.
A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS
I believe when we combine a compassionate, judgment-free therapeutic relationship + a little bit of psychoeducation + a dash of accountability + a dollop of support that it equals something extraordinary.
I am trained in EMDR and EFT and have seen transformative experiences. I am a big believer in post-traumatic growth and I look forward to connecting with you.
