My Approach to Helping
In your relationship in need of help? Do you and your partner keeping fighting about the same issues? Has your sex life been lacking? Has something shaken your trust and irreversibly changed the relationship?
I can help! Yes, relationships are hard. But changing them doesn't have to be! I specialize in relationship counseling for both couples and individuals.
If you're a couple, (married and non-married) I can help you prepare for marriage, or navigate the hardships of marriage once you're in it. I help couples with communication, infidelity, trust, sexual issues, decisions about staying the course or separating, and in-law relationships.
If you're an individual, we will examine your patterns and take control over improving your relationships. Whether you're struggling with your spouse, dating partners, or relationships with friends and family, I can help.
New insight is just as important as new skills in helping you reach your goals - in my care you'll get both. I often give homework in between sessions to help quicken your progress and increase the value you receive from your treatment!
Decision Point Therapy is conveniently located on Virginia Beach Blvd and proudly serves the Hampton Roads area including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, Chesapeake, Hampton, Portsmouth, and surrounding areas.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
As my potential client, I encourage you to do a bit of shopping around as you select a therapist. After all, it's your time, money, and most importantly your life. You want to make sure you're in good hands! Especially, if you've had a bad therapy experience before.
Not every therapist can be a good fit for your unique needs and your personality. Do a free phone consultation with me and schedule a first session. Only then should you decide if we're a good fit and you'd like to continue with me. If not, no hard feelings!
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Not every therapist is a fit for every client! In addition to verifying education, credentials, and the issues that your therapist treats, it is also important to choose a therapist that you feel comfortable with.
You may also want to consider a therapist's worldview and philosophy about change, as some people find that this helps them more easily connect with their therapist.
Clients who I work best with tend to be highly educated, open-minded, liberal, have a quirky or off the cuff sense of humor, and take themselves seriously but never too seriously. I also work well with clients who are motivated to tackle their issues and eager to do self-guided work in between sessions.
Factors that contribute to feeling comfortable and connected to your therapist vary from person to person. Oftentimes you may not know how you feel with a particular therapist until you've met them in person.
For this reason, I suggest scheduling a first appointment with me to get a feel for my working style and determine if you feel I'm a good fit for you. I'm fully supportive of clients who choose to shop around and meet with more than one therapist before making their final selection.
I tailor sessions to each individual client and typically use the following therapy models in my work: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (E-CBT), Emotional-Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, Solution-Focused, Bowen.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
Most clients opt to attend sessions once per week. I recommend this, especially in the beginning of therapy, as it's the best way to stay focused on your goals and achieve success.
However, some clients opt to attend sessions once every other week to best accommodate their schedule or for financial reasons. We will work together to find a schedule that works best for you and your circumstances.
