My goal as a therapist is helping people to live the life and have the relationships they yearn for. I?m passionate about this b/c I?ve struggled with it.
I learned early on to please other people in order to get love, attention, and acceptance. I became so good at this that I lost touch with my true self and desires ? I didn?t know who I was or what I wanted, though if you asked I would have said I did (and I really believed that I knew!). My life looked good on the surface.
People pleasers can be really good at putting on facades often looking like we have our sh*t together. The down side of this is we, and others, often believe these masks to be our true selves (or real), so we are never really seen or known. This can become lonely, confusing, and frustrating. Yet, it is really difficult to break out of our conditioned habits because we risk losing our image, our relationships, and what has become a relatively comfortable, known existence. Yet, at other times, it is difficult not to break free because we are depressed, even to the point of not knowing why we are here.
However, if we take the risk to really know ourselves and our heart?s desires, we also have the opportunity to gain satisfying relationships (with ourselves and others), work, and to feel congruent within ourselves. I am passionate about supporting others on this path because it has changed my life. The risks can be intimidating and scary, yet for me, the rewards have been well worth it!
How would you answer the following questions:
Do I have difficulty saying no? Knowing what I want?
Do I think I have to be able to accommodate everyone else? That my needs are either
unimportant or irrelevant or difficult to determine?
Am I a chameleon, changing and adapting myself to fit in any situation or with anyone?
Do I become resentful when other people don?t give to me like I give to them? When
they can?t read my mind or know what I want without asking me?
Do other people think I?ve got my sh*t together, but inside I?m lonely and confused,
longing to be seen and really known?

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
I believe that I am a much better therapist (and person) because of the personal work I've done. I trust the psychotherapeutic process because it has changed my life. Both of these help me to support my clients because I believe transformation is possible, and I know the relief good therapy can bring.
