My Role as a Therapist
My role as a therapist is to partner with the client and help him or her decide what is the best action to take based on their value system and their identified goals.
It is also to provide a safe place where clients are able to process major life events, and how those events have shaped them today. This brings about a level of awareness which empowers clients to implement further change, healing, and personal growth.
My Therapy Focus
The focus of my therapeutic work with clients is determined by the goals the client has identified. Once the goals are identified, the client and I can explore the presenting issues in depth, identify triggers and/or errors in thinking, and finally identify healthy ways to cope and overcome difficult situations.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
I think a client should choose a therapist with whom they think they could talk to easily, relate with, and genuinely feels that he or she has their very best interests in mind. The client should also feel that the counselor values, respects, and challenges them to be their best self. There should be a sense of mutual respect and a similar value system.
